Andre Ethier Comments On False Reports About His Retirement

Over the weekend it was reported that Andre Ethier planned to retire, but the false report was quickly dispelled by his agent. Andre himself spoke out about the rumors in an interview with MLB Network Radio on Monday.

Andre was at his cabin in Northern Arizona with his family when a text came in from his agent, Nez Balelo.

I get a text from my agent saying “Is this true? Were you not gonna tell me?” and I’m like what are you talking about? He said some guy is reporting that you talked to your family over Thanksgiving and you’re gonna retire. I said “I didn’t talk to anyone, actually we didn’t talk one dang thing about baseball all week.”

You can hear the rest of the interview here:

Ethier also joked, “The only other thing I told him was should I take it as a sign that if this guy doesn’t think I should be playing still, should I just hang them up then?” which he and Balelo had a laugh about.

Andre also left open the possibility of coming back to the Dodgers, but said, “If it’s not the Dodgers, if it’s another team, it needs to be a team that will give me an opportunity to be a winner.” Check out the full quote from Ethier below!

If Ethier were to come back to the Dodgers, it’s safe to say that many fans would welcome him back with open arms. He has always been a fan favorite, and despite his struggles to stay healthy, he could still find a way to help a team win. If Andre were to sign with another team, he clearly wants it to be a team that is set to contend. Ethier does have value as a platoon outfielder who will hit right handers well. He’s also a guy who has plenty of postseason experience who can bring knowledge and leadership to a younger club.

  1. Relieved to here Ethier is not going to retire. I know he is a strong player who has much to offer. I only hope he stays with the Dodgers. They will be a stronger team with Ethier’s presence. A couple injuries is not enough to make me loose faith in this player. I was more than happy to see him play in post season.

  2. I hope the Dodgers and Andre Ethier can find some common ground for him to finish his career as a Dodger. He’s always been a class guy and hard worker, with one of the most perfect swings in baseball. I, and most other fans, would sorely miss him if he’s not wearing Dodger blue next year.

    1. I agree 100% with Jerry. The 2016 season was a bummer, with Andre OUT for ALL but the last 2-3 weeks, with the broken fiblia. I hope they re-sign him, and let him finish his career, in “DODGER BLUE”.
