Once a fan favorite and necessity for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Hanley Ramirez fell from grace in 2014 as he battled multiple injuries that limited his impact. The Dodgers extended Ramirez a qualifying offer, which he rejected, thus becoming a free agent.

It’s believed talks between the Dodgers and Ramirez to keep the shortstop in Los Angeles never gained much traction and he was soon off to Boston, joining forces with friends David Ortiz and Pablo Sandoval. The decision to letting Ramirez walk was met by mixed feelings, and one well-known Dodger fan remains adamant in his belief on the matter.

Renowned talk show host Larry King every so often tweets a stream of thoughts, often random and entertaining, with the ‘#ItsMy2cents’ hashtag. On Sunday King tweeted he still believes the Dodgers should’ve re-signed Ramirez:

The tweet drew plenty of responses, which was to be expected, and it caught the attention of current Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson:

Ramirez is batting .257/.309/.486 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs, but his transition to left field has been far from a smooth one. He’s currently rated a -0.4 WAR by virtue of a -1.3 dWAR and has regularly turned routine plays into difficult ones.

There were concerns over his defensive range, tendency to get injured, and desire for a longterm contract, which didn’t fit well in the Dodgers’ picture moving forward given Corey Seager’s rise. Last season Ramirez finished with a -0.6 dWAR at shortstop.

  1. He’s a D.L. dweller ! He’s up to the same shenanigans over in Boston, Now ! Though,at times he was more pleasant in L.A. than he was in Miami,The Dodgers did right to move him along. Bring on Corey Seager ! Nothing against Mr. King . I still feel the same way about the Kemp move. We’re all entitled to our opinions !

    1. Hard to see Kemp go, but overall it was also the right move. Yasmani Grandal’s defense is a huge upgrade at the catching position, not to mention his current offensive production (and he’s a switch hitter), compared to Kemp’s mediocre offensive start to the year and replaceable defense in the outfield (don’t get me wrong, he’s a great outfielder, but we didn’t defensively downgrade by any means). We also still have a crowded outfield as far as talent is concerned with Ethier’s stellar start once Puig comes back and Joc’s permanent addition to the starting lineup. Miss Kemp for what he did for the Dodgers in the past, but overall, we don’t miss him.

    2. True. Guys who cause trouble and promise to be good usually only hold it together for a season or 2 before they start acting up again. That quick fix from 2 years ago brought in quite a few talented, but troubled players. Some like Greinke are still going strong, but others like Hanley and Wilson are gone.

  2. He would have won us a championship had the Cardinals not intentionally drilled him first on the wrist and and then in the ribs, with no payback, the Dodger’s should drill Carpenter on the hands. But Mattingly is a pussy.
