It’s been a long time since the Los Angeles Dodgers have hosted a World Series game, but it’s been an even longer time since they have hosted an All-Star game.

The news on Thursday morning was the announcement that the 2016 All-Star game and festivities will be held in San Diego at Petco Park. Dodger Stadium last held an All-Star game in 1980. While the stadium has seen renovations over the past several years, it’s still the third-oldest stadium in the MLB.

According to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, the soon-to-be former commissioner Bud Selig gives some hope to Los Angeles:

Last year would have been a great year for the Dodgers to have the All-Star game, as they had four All-Stars and Yasiel Puig participated in the Home Run Derby. Had the game been in Los Angeles, Clayton Kershaw likely would have gotten the start over Adam Wainwright.

Even though Selig is on his way out of the commissioner’s office, his word still holds high rank in baseball and could give Los Angeles a leg up in future votes. The team has once again become relevant in baseball, due to their success and star power. Future Dodger All-Stars are constantly seen at Dodger Stadium and the history of the franchise is well-known.

While it may not happen for a few years, it’s exciting to think of seeing the Midsummer Classic at Chavez Ravine.
