Clayton Kershaw was unable to solve the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh inning of Games 1 and 4 of the NLDS and it cost both the left-hander and Los Angeles Dodgers.

While Kershaw’s latest postseason troubles added to the notion he’s not capable of winning the big game. Despite the disappointing end to the 2014 season, the Dodger ace put together one of the more impressive regular seasons and the recognition has formally begun.

On Tuesday, Kershaw was named Baseball America’s Player of the Year and Wednesday, he made Sporting News’ 2014 National League All-Star team.

Kershaw led the Majors with 21 wins, six complete games, WHIP (0.86) and in ERA (1.77). The ERA title was Kershaw’s fourth consecutive, becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to accomplish the feat.

Dee Gordon also represents the Dodgers on Sporting News’ NL All-Star team after a successful first season at second base. Gordon’s range and athleticism that once made him a shortstop transitioned well to the other middle infield position and he filled a major need for the Dodgers.

Gordon also set the tone at the top of the lineup, led the Majors in stolen bases and was named to his first All-Star Game. Yasiel Puig played well through the early stages of the season, but went through a slump that last over one month and he was not among the outfielders recognized by Sporting News.
