The main question that all Dodgers fans asked before the game was, “Would the Dodgers starting lineup help the Dodgers win Game 5?” Since this was a crucial postseason game, the Dodgers did not want to travel to Wrigley down 3 games to 1 to the Chicago Cubs.

Many people assumed that Vin Scully would help the Dodgers luck against the Cubs but that wasn’t the case.

The Cubs took the early lead with a RBI double to right field in the first by Anthony Rizzo.

Kenta Maeda pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowing one run on three hits and struck out six. However; the Dodgers bullpen was the main reason for the 8-4 loss in Game 5.

The umpires were still against Adrián González and he was not afraid to let the home plate umpire know how he felt. In the fourth inning, González grounds out to first base and Howie Kendrick scores to tie up the game at one a piece.

In the top of the sixth with Joe Blanton pitching, Addison Russell homers to center field and the Cubs lead to 3-1.

The Dodgers used Pedro Baez and Ross Stripling in the eight and the Cubs ran away with the lead.

  • Kris Bryant singles on a ground ball to third base, one run scores
  • Javier Baez doubles to right field

In the bottom half of the eight, Carlos Ruiz singles to center field and one run scores, making it 8-2 Cubs.

The Dodgers cut the lead in half with a Josh Reddick single to center and an Andrew Toles’ sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.

Like in Game 4, the Dodgers did not play the simple fundamentals of baseball. I believe no one can summarize how the Dodgers played in Game 5. So, Roberts lineup did not go in favor of the Dodgers.

The Dodgers now have to wait to head back to Chicago on Saturday to stay alive in Game 6.
