Dodger Rumors: Dodgers Reportedly Sign Jair Jurrjens

Less than 48 hours after adding to their minor league starting pitching depth by adding former ace Justin Masterson, the Dodgers have reportedly gone and signed themselves another in Jair Jurrjens.

According to Hudson Belinsky of Baseball America, the Dodgers have inked Jurrjens to a minor league deal.

Jurrjens spent his spring pitching for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. After getting knocked out in the semi-finals to Puerto Rico, it appears his WBC showcase was enough to get the attention of Major League clubs.

Jurrjens last played in the majors back in 2014 for the Colorado Rockies. He was with the club’s Triple-A team in 2015 before going to play abroad.

A former All-Star in 2011, Jurrjens finished the season with a 2.96 ERA for the Atlanta Braves. He showed a rapid decline due to injuries in the years following his All-Star season.

This move is just like the Masterson deal. It is a low-risk, high-reward deal that allows the Dodgers to have some depth with Major League experience. It is possible that the Dodgers could see a glimpse of Jurrjens’ old form if he is truly healthy.
