Dodgers To Activate Brandon McCarthy; Potential Bullpen Role

Brandon McCarthy has suffered from disabled list stints in 2017 due to patella tendonitis and blister issues, but it looks like his year isn’t over just yet.

Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that Brandon McCarthy will be activated next week.

What is interesting is that Roberts noted that McCarthy might get an opportunity to pitch out of the bullpen. With Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish, Alex Wood, and Rich Hill likely being the starters come October, a bullpen role looks to be McCarthy’s best chance at making the postseason roster.

McCarthy was fairly solid and dependable for the first few months of the season. His ERA was 3.10, 3.57, and 3.20 in April, May, and June, respectively. Then he began to struggle with command issues and his ERA jumped to 6.75 in July.

He recently started two postseason games in the minors for the single-A Quakes and the double-A Drillers. He went five innings and gave up three runs for the Quakes and went six innings and gave up just two runs for the Drillers.

Do you think he can help out the Dodgers bullpen? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. No he is always wild. The Dodgers are so confused. They forget how they won. They are messing with this too much and it will lead to failure once again They can’t accept success. It is ridiculous and the results will show in October.
