Dodgers Almost Traded for Daniel Murphy

Another report circulating is one from Ken Gurnick of MLB.com about the Dodgers exploring the thought of trading for Daniel Murphy of the New York Mets.

The word is that the Dodgers tried trading for Murphy during the Winter Meetings. Ned Colletti had referred to a player that would upgrade the roster.

The trade is assumed to have fallen through after the Mets received outfielder Andres Torres from the Giants. Gurnick suggests that the Dodgers might have sent Tony Gwynn, Jr. to the Mets.

The trade is off, for now, but may be revisited in the coming days.

Last season for the Mets, the multi-talented Murphy hit .320 with six home runs and 49 RBIs. Murphy stole five bases in 10 attempts. This in 106 games after Murphy’s season was cut short due to a torn MCL. His injury was described as a Grade 2 tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

In seven career games at Dodger Stadium, Murphy has hit .217 with an RBI.
