Dodgers – Angels Spring Training Live Game Thread

The Dodgers and Angels resume their crosstown rivalry, this time in a neutral location out in the desert.

Former Angel Scott Kazmir is on the mound this afternoon, as he looks to build off his steady start last week.

ICYMI: Early Injuries Force Dodgers to Adjust

Joc Pederson will lead off for the Dodgers, who have to hope he turns things around in the near future.

First Inning:

JOC PEDERSON ALERT! He leads off the game with a bomb to right! Andre Ethier follows with a walk, but Gonzalez grounds into a double play. Scott Van Slyke has a hit robbed from him and we head to the bottom of the first.

Kzmir is not particularly sharp to start, walking Cole Calhoun and Mike Trout (who scares the living bleep out of me, even in the spring) to put himself in a two-on, one-out hole. A one-out single to Albert Pujols drives in a run to tie the score. That grounder had eyes. A couple more hits drives in a couple more runs and Kazmir is going full Angels-Kazmir. The inning finally ends on a pop-out, but the damage was done there in the first.

Second Inning: Dodgers Trail 3-1

Grandal and Seager go down fairly easily, but Austin Barnes drives a huge homer to left! That went really, really far. Rob Sedegin drives one, too, but it winds up as a really loud out. Dodgers get one back as Kazmir gets set for his second inning.

The Angels get a two-out rally going and a Trout triple scores Calhoun from first. Van Slyke played that bounce pretty lazily on the bounce and paid for it. Pujols drops one in front of Van Slyke and Trout scores easily. Van Slyke didn’t exactly show off his range on that one. Kazmir’s day is done. Wright induces a flyout and the inning finally ends.

Third Inning: Dodgers trail 5-2

Pederson gets a one-out single on a ground ball just out of Cron’s reach and advances on a passed ball. Gonzalez hits a laser to center to score Pederson! Then, Van Slyke blasts a bomb to left to tie the game! Two out rallies, man.

Wright stays in, as he only threw the one out in relief for Kazmir in the second. He gives up a broken-bat single to Nava to start the inning. Another single puts Wright in a hole with runners on first and third with no outs.

The Angels wind up scoring two runs on another grouping of hits and a wild pitch. The pitching in this game has not been impressive.

Fourth Inning: Dodgers Trail 7-5

Nothing comes of the Dodgers’ half of the inning thanks to a double play.

Chris Hatcher in for Wright. Trout hits a one-out double, followed by Pujols driving a shot to right. Fortunately, Trout’s baserunning fundamentals stink and he forgets to tag. Cron does double to drive in Trout however, extending the Angels’ lead. A Nava groundout ends the inning.

Fifth Inning: Dodgers trail 8-5

Van Slyke and Cody Bellinger hit a couple two-out singles to put a RISP for Corey Seager, who grounds one solidly to short for the fielder’s choice. Nothing going for the Dodgers and they still trail by three.

Mike Bolsinger in for Hatcher and he handles the Angels in order. First inning so little noise was made in.

Sixth Inning: Dodgers trail 8-5

A couple singles get runners to first and second for Joc with one out. Joc strikes out, but Ethier hits a single to center, scoring Segedin! Then, Jack Murphy’s double scores two and the score is tied at eight!

Bolsinger remains in the game and gets through the inning with nothing going for the Angels.

Seventh Inning: Tied 8-8

Cody Bellinger begins the inning with a single, advances to second on a grounder, and then to third on a wild pitch. Austin Barnes drives him in with a single to center field, and the Dodgers now have a 9-8 lead! Trayce Thompson then singles to put two runners on. Micah Johnson singles up the middle, the Angels botch it hilariously, and two runs score! Charlie Culberson then singles in Johnson! #Culberson2016

Time to stretch!

Bolsinger still in there. This now being his third inning. Leadoff single and then a misfielded bunt for the Angels to start the inning. And then a hit batter loads the bases with no one out. Oh this game will never end. Sac fly and RBI groundout make it 12-10 Dodgers. Groundout ends the inning.

Eighth Inning: Dodgers lead 12-10

Bellinger leads the inning off with a single, his third hit of the day. Alex Hassan then draws a walk. Corey Brown then rips a RBI ground rule double down the right field line. 13-10 Dodgers! Groundout by Thompson is the first out. Johnson goes down swinging and Culberson grounds out for the final out.

Angels get a one-out single before they get retired on an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play. To the 9th!

Ninth Inning: Dodgers lead 13-10

Dodgers went down in order to start the final frame. Lineout to third, strikeout, and strikeout.

First pitch from Jharel Cotton is lined into left field for a single. His second pitch is lined into right field for a single. His third pitch hit a batter to load the bases with nobody out. Bases clearing double for the Angels ties the game at 13-13. An out was recorded in a rundown which allowed the third run to score. Next two batters get out, and the game ends in a 13-13 tie.

Final score: 13-13
