With Brandon McCarthy on the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers wasted no time in putting runs on the board. In the first inning, Hanley Ramirez hit a line drive with two outs, and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a two-run homer giving the Dodgers the early edge. Hyun-Jin Ryu was the Dodgers starting pitcher on Friday night. The left-hander began his outing with a walk to A.J. Pollock and a hit to Aaron Hill, but Ryu struck out Paul Goldschmidt amidst a scoreless inning. In the second, McCarthy and Ryu both allowed just one hit each in the scoreless inning.

Carl Crawford began the third with a lead off single, but a ground ball from Yasiel Puig forced Crawford out at second. Ramirez followed with a line drive double to advance Puig to third. Gonzalez came up big again hitting a line drive to left field and Puig and Ramirez were able to score making the score 4-0. Ryu had a quick 1-2-3 inning logging his third and fourth strikeouts of the game.

Heading into the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, McCarthy seemed to have more composure after dealing three quick innings, and Ryu matched McCarthy with equally impressive outings. The game picked up in the seventh after Dee Gordon hit a ground ball single off of McCarthy then proceeded to steal second. Gordon made it to third after Ryu grounded out, but Carl Crawford left Gordon in scoring position after grounding out to end the inning. The Dodger starter stayed strong and consistent in the bottom of the inning logging yet another impressive quick three outs.

The Dodgers extended their lead in the eighth after McCarthy gave up back to back doubles to Puig and Ramirez. After Puig scored, Gonzalez had another big at-bat as he drove Ramirez home after hitting a line drive to left field. With no outs and the score 6-1, the Diamondbacks called in Will Harris to replace McCarthy. After striking out Andre Ethier, Harris forced Uribe to ground out into a double play. Jamey Wright entered the game for Ryu and struck out all three batters he faced.

In the top of the ninth, the Dodgers were retired in order with Federowicz, Gordon and Wright going down. Wright stayed in to throw the bottom of the ninth. He walked Pollock to start the inning but got Hill to fly out and Goldschmidt to ground into the game-ending double play. The Dodgers won 6-0.
