Dodgers’ Dave Roberts: His Case for NL Manager of the Year

Taking over the Dodgers and leading them to such great success through an abundance of obstacles is a difficult task that was handled exceptionally well this season. Los Angeles’ Manager, Dave Roberts, came into a season where everything bad that could have happened… happened.

It should come as no surprise that Roberts, is Manager of the Year in his first season with the team. That’s what Dodger fans think at least.

A Rough Draft Version of the Dodger Playoff Roster

It seemed as though the Dodgers spent more time on the disabled list than on the field. Losing one of the best pitchers in MLB, as in Clayton Kershaw, for two months, having to send Yasiel Puig to the minors for attitude problems of all things, and Andre Ethier out with a broken leg are not even half of the major setbacks Roberts had to deal with.

The Dodgers’ manager definitely deserves the credit for Kershaw coming back to throw perfect, scoreless, innings and for humbling Puig who returned with an exceptional batting average, once again.

Filling the shoes of former Dodgers manager, Don Mattingly, was thought to be a difficult task considering that Mattingly was the only manager in franchise history to lead the team to post-season three consecutive times. In his first year, Roberts has already proven to be just as good.

Currently, the Dodgers stand with 82 wins and are once again in the lead for the NL West division and placed five games ahead of the San Francisco Giants.

One thing is for certain, Roberts has definitely been faced with many tough decisions this season and even with some of those decisions that brought jaws down, he seems to know exactly what he is doing.

  1. Alyssa , If  i was you I would do more research a lot of Fans don’t think Roberts should get Manager of the year. Go onto Dodger Underground , Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodgers Fraternity virtual sites read the comments what they think of him and ask these fans what they think. Even on Dodger nation the comments we have all seen concerning having some back bone and own up on some of his moves. A lot of us think if a Manager with experience would of taken over after Mattingly right now Dodgers would of clinched. Roberts Friedman and Zaidi is the problem. Trades and demotions are pretty crazy. Signing of Pitchers right after getting Tommy John surgery . Continued use of Pitchers with ERA’s of 5.00. Saying your not platooning and you are. Sitting a hitter thats hot for a player thats hitting under .200. This and more could something you should write about.
