Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Says Team Will Not Have A Pool Party At Chase Field

The Dodgers are leading the Diamondbacks in the NLDS 2-0, defeating Arizona 9-5 in Game 1 and 8-5 in Game 2. Game 3 will take place on Monday at Chase Field and the opportunity for sweeping in Arizona made fans think of only one thing: pool party!

Back in 2013 the Dodgers clinched the NL West title in Arizona and proceeded to have a pool party in the pool located in right-center field. The move sparked a bit of controversy, with baseball fans everywhere debating whether or not it was a classless thing to do.

You can check out the Dodgers celebrating and Brian Kenny, Dan Plesac and Joey Cora debating the issue below.

Well we won’t have to worry about the controversy resurfacing this year because Dave Roberts told the media on Sunday that if the Dodgers win in Arizona, they will not be celebrating in the pool.

Here is what Dave Roberts had to say, courtesy of SportsNetLA:

Yeah, that won’t happen. This is a completely different team. I think we have bigger goals than to jump into a swimming pool.

Our guys clearly understand what this team is about and we have no interest in jumping in a pool in right field.

Even Dodgers fans are pretty split on this topic, so this isn’t just a Dodgers vs. everybody debate. I personally supported Pool Party Pt. 2, but I can understand why others would be upset about it. I can also appreciate Dave Roberts “spoiling the fun” and letting everybody know that it will not be happening. Like he said, they have “bigger goals” in mind and I think that is something that all Dodgers fans can get behind!

Game 3 of the NLDS will start at 7:08 p.m. PT. There will not be a pool party if the Dodgers win, but I think champagne celebrations will do just fine!

  1. The Dodger’s are a classy team. I agree with Dave Roberts. There are “bigger goals” ahead…but I’d love to see some corks popping tonight! GO DODGERS!

  2. After failing to reach our goal the past 4 years, No need to over-celebrate division titles or postseason series clinchers, unless it’s the World Series.
