Dodgers Defeat Angels in Exhibition Opener

The Dodgers and Angels faced off in Anaheim on Sunday night for the first of three exhibition games. The two teams travel up and down the 5 freeway every year around this time to prepare for Opening Day.

Kenta Maeda was on the hill for Los Angeles and Parker Bridwell went for Anaheim. In what will be the last outing for him to start the season, Maeda gave up two solo home runs in five innings of work. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.

On the offensive side of things, Chris Taylor and Yasiel Puig both had home runs of their own. Taylor also added two base hits for the night, finishing up 3-4 on the evening.

J.T. Chargois is rumored to be a strong candidate to make the final roster out of the bullpen, and he threw again Sunday. He allowed one hit in an inning pitched and struck out two. One of those strikeouts came against Mike Trout. Chargois now carries a 1.00 earned run average in his outstanding Spring.

Kenley Jansen also made a rare Spring appearance for the Dodgers, striking out two and allowing one hit. Josh Fields came on the inning after Jansen to close out the game, in just his fourth inning of preseason work. Both Jansen and Fields have yet to allow a run this year.

Scott Alexander also made a promising appearance in what has been a rough spring.  He pitched the seventh inning and did not allow a hit. He also struck out 2 batters en route to a perfect inning. If he does not pitch again this series, he will end the preseason with an ERA above six.

Looking Ahead

The two teams will travel up the 5 freeway to Dodger Stadium for the next two games being played Monday and Tuesday. Rich Hill will make his final appearance of the Spring Monday, and Hyun-Jin Ryu will throw Tuesday.
