Dodgers – Diamondbacks Live Game Thread

Kenta Maeda is on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers today, and it’s his first game ever at Dodger Stadium. He will be opposed by left-hander Patrick Corbin of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who is pretty darn good in his own right. The game is scheduled for a 1:15 PM first pitch.

FIRST INNING

Kenta Maeda opens the game by hitting Jean Segura on the arm, but he ultimately gets out of the inning with a fly out, strikeout, and groundout.

After a leadoff single by Hernandez for the Dodgers, Puig grounds into a force out, and then Gonzalez and Turner strikeout to end the inning.

SECOND INNING: TIED AT 0-0

Maeda gives up a leadoff single, and then Jake Lamb rips a double to right-center to put runners on second and third with nobody out. However, Maeda then buckles down to get a strikeout, groundout, and groundout to escape the inning with zero runs allowed.

Kendrick singles, then Thompson gets an infield single to put two on with nobody out. Seager then flies out to right, and Kendrick tags up to third to put runners on the corners with one out. A.J. Ellis then SQUEEZES, AND THE DODGERS SCORE THE FIRST RUN OF THE GAME! Maeda then lines out to right, but the Dodgers have a lead going to the third.

THIRD INNING: DODGERS LEAD 1-0

1-2-3 inning for Maeda after a groundout, strikeout, and fly out.

Hernandez gets his second single of the day, but Puig, Gonzalez, and Turner go down in order on a fly out, strikeout, and pop out. Nothing doing for them.

FOURTH INNING: DODGERS LEAD 1-0

Maeda gives up a leadoff walk before getting a fly out to right-center and a pop up on the infield. An error by Kendrick puts runners on first and second with two outs, but Corbin bunts for a hit and gets thrown out to end the half-inning.

After Kendrick grounds out and Thompson flies out, Seager works a 10-pitch walk that was pretty darn special. Ellis grounds out to short, and that ends the fourth.

FIFTH INNING: DODGERS LEAD 1-0

After a one-out single, nothing doing for the Diamondbacks as the third out is Segura getting thrown out trying to steal second.

Two quick outs start the bottom of the inning before Yasiel Puig does the most Yasiel Puig thing ever by lining a pitch outside the strike zone all the way to left field and then getting a hustle double out of it. The play is being reviewed, though. HE IS SAFE! However, Gonzalez flies out on the first pitch and he is stranded at second.

SIXTH INNING: DODGERS LEAD 1-0

After the first two outs are recorded on a groundout and strikeout, Castillo punches a ball into left field for a two-out single. Maeda then gives up a double to Jake Lamb, and Castillo tries to score from first base BUT PUIG AND TURNER RELAY THE BALL TO THE PLATE AND CASTILLO IS GUNNED DOWN FOR THE THIRD OUT! 12 SCORELESS INNINGS FOR MAEDA!

Two-out single for Trayce Thompson. Clocked at 108 MPH leaving his bat. That’s a rope. Seager pops out to short left field and Ahmed makes the play to end the inning. To the seventh we go.

SEVENTH INNING: DODGERS LEAD 1-0

Pedro Baez comes in to pitch the seventh. After getting a pop out and strikeout, he gives up a golfed solo home run down the left field line just over the wall next to the foul pole. This game is tied. Segura then flies to deep center, but Thompson catches it at the wall to end the inning. However, we’re now tied. Time to stretch!

Leadoff single for Ellis, and then Charlie Culberson, who is pinch hitting, bunts into the lovely 3-6-4 double play. Oh joy. Hernandez then is called out on strikes to end the frame. Not a fun one for the Dodgers.

EIGHTH INNING: TIED AT 1-1

Chris Hatcher is tasked with the eighth inning. After getting the first out, Hatcher serves up a 3-0 pitch that Paul Goldschmidt plants 425 feet into left-center field for a 2-1 Diamondbacks lead. Two-out ground rule double for Castillo. An intentional walk to Lamb, and then a straight walk to Tomas have the bases loaded with two outs. Louis Coleman coming in. The last inning and a half has not been fun. Coleman strikes out Rickie Weeks to end the top of the eighth, but not before the Diamondbacks get the lead on a home run.

Puig is hit by a pitch, and then Gonzalez singles to right to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Turner strikes out, though. Kendrick flies out to right, and Puig moves up to third. Chase Utley is going to pinch hit here with two outs. Unfortunately, Utley flies out weakly to left field, and that’s that.

NINTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 2-1

Coleman hits Ahmed to start the ninth. Segura flies out to new left fielder Howie Kendrick, who is playing left field for the first time since 2013. Socrates Brito then triples down the right field line, and it’s 3-1 Diamondbacks. Groundout to Seager by Goldschmidt makes it 4-1. Fly out ends the frame, but not before Arizona tacks on two more runs. Not a good day for the bullpen.

Leadoff double for Seager! Pederson grounds out, and Seager moves up to third. Yasmani Grandal is coming up. Grandal grounds out, but Seager scores. However, there are now two outs with one out to go. Hernandez goes down looking, and the game is over. Another tough loss for the Dodgers. They’ve had a lead in all eight games they’ve played, but have only won four.

FINAL SCORE: DIAMONDBACKS 4, DODGERS 2
