FIRST INNING

Andre Ethier kickstarts the game with a leadoff single to center on the first pitch before Howie Kendrick then pops out to second for the first out. Justin Turner then gets walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Chase Utley then singles to right field to put Los Angeles up 1-0, and runners are on first and third with one out now. Yasiel Puig then lifts a sac fly to right field for a 2-0 lead. Yasmani Grandal then hits a HOME RUN to right center field for a 4-0 lead! What an inning! Kike Hernandez then grounds out to end the top half, but not before the Dodgers score four runs!

Brandon Beachy on the bump here, and he gets a 1-2-3 first inning after two groundouts and a Paul Golschmidt lineout to right field.

HIGHLIGHT

SECOND INNING: DODGERS LEAD 4-0

Los Angeles goes down in order on a hard groundout to third, strikeout, and hard groundout to first.

Beachy starts off his half of the second inning with a walk. Not ideal. And then he gives up a single to put runners on first and second with no one out. Then a walk loads the bases. Oh boy. A sac fly brings in the first run for Arizona. Diamondbacks then attempt a sac bunt, but the runner at third is thrown out and the ensuing throw to first goes awry and allows the runner from first to go to third. Runners on first and third with two outs now, still 4-1. An RBI single makes it 4-2 now. Another single loads the bases now. Really long, draining inning. An infield single scores another run, and it’s 4-3 now. Thankfully, Beachy strikes out Goldschmidt to end the inning. That took way too long.

THIRD INNING: DODGERS LEAD 4-3

Solo home run for Howie Kendrick! Hit that one a long way to dead center! 5-3! Then a single by Justin Turner. Offense looks great. And then Chase Utley popped out to the catcher. Puig then rips a line drive double to left-center to put runners on second and third with one out. He’s been swinging the bat great this spring. Grandal then flies out to left, but not deep enough to score Turner. Then Hernandez strikes out to end the frame. But LA adds a run!

Beachy walks Lamb to start the bottom half, and that’s not what you want. Then Tomas with a single to center. Starting like last inning. Then a walk to load the bases. This really is just like the last inning. Oh joy. Dave Roberts now jogging out to the mound to remove Brandon Beachy from the game after 64 pitches. Castillo then ties the game at 5-5 after a two-run double off of Yimi Garcia. A groundout to second is the first out of the bottom of the third, but a run doesn’t score thankfully. And then a two-run single gives Arizona a 7-5 lead. The final two outs are recorded on a flyout and a strikeout, but the Diamondbacks take the lead going to the fourth.

HIGHLIGHT

FOURTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 7-5

Thompson leads off the top of the inning with a double. Groundout moves Thompson to third. Wild pitch scores Thompson so it’s 7-6 now! Andre Ethier then works a walk and he’s going to be removed from the game for a pinch-runner after he fouled a ball off of his right shin earlier in the at-bat. And then another wild pitch allows Rico Noel to move to second base. Noel then steals third and scores after an errant throw sails into left field! Tie game! Kendrick then grounds out for the second out. Turner then ends the inning with a groundout, but the Dodgers have tied it up!

Luis Avilan on to pitch now, and he gets Goldschmidt looking to begin the bottom half. And then Avilan gets Jake Lamb to go down swinging! Tomas then hits a ball over the head of Thompson in center for a two-out double. Another double, which almost goes for a home run, scores Tomas and it’s now 8-7 Diamondbacks. After a walk, Dave Roberts is making another pitching change. This game is dragging on. Matt West in now. Flyout to center ends the inning, but not before Arizona retakes the lead.

FIFTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 8-7

Los Angeles goes down in order after a strikeout, lineout to center that robbed Puig, and a strikeout.

After the first two outs were recorded rather briskly, a runner reached and then Paul Goldschmidt hit a line drive home run to right field to make it 10-7 Diamondbacks. Yikes. Final out is recorded, and we finally head to the sixth.

SIXTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 10-7

Los Angeles, yet again, goes down in order with nothing doing.

Adam Liberatore retires the side in order, and we head to the seventh inning finally

SEVENTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 10-7

Woo, baby! With one out, Cody Bellinger just hit a long home run to left-center field! An oppo-taco! Dodgers climb within two runs now as it’s 10-8. Nothing doing after that, and we head to the bottom half of the seventh. TIME TO STRETCH!

Jamey Wright on the mound now. A one-out hustle double gets Arizona in business. A single then scores the runner from second after he beats the throw. 11-8 now. Then a stolen base of second happens. Flyout to left is the second out. Finally, the inning ends on a strikeout.

EIGHTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 11-8

After the first two batters are retired, a throwing error by Arizona’s pitcher puts a runner on first. A single to right then puts runners on the corners with two outs. A force out on a grounder to short then ends the half-inning.

Chin-hui Tsao retires the side in order on two flyouts and a groundout. To the ninth!

NINTH INNING: DODGERS TRAIL 11-8

Cody Bellinger laces a one-out single to right field. A fielder’s choice is the second out, and Bellinger moves to second. Then a two-out walk brings the tying run to the plate. Brandon Hicks flies out to right, and this one is in the books.

FINAL SCORE: DIAMONDBACKS 11, DODGERS 8
