Wieland’s streak of seven straight retired Brewers came to an end with Segura opening the bottom of the fourth with a single. He attempted to steal second with one-out on a ball that kicked away from A.J. Ellis, but was thrown out. Wieland issued a two-out walk to Peralta before getting Carlos Gomez to fly out.

After Ellis and Wieland were retired, Pederson tacked on another run for the Dodgers in the fifth with his eighth home run of the season. It would be all the got in the inning as Rollins grounded out on the first pitch he saw.

During the bottom half of the fifth, Wieland retired the first two batters before giving up a two-out double to Lind. He intentionally walked Ramirez and was replaced by Sergio Santos. The Dodgers’ relief pitcher first walked the bases loaded, then walked a run in, extending the Brewers’ lead to 6-2.

They nearly scored their seventh run, as Turner’s throw after a diving stop appeared to pull Gonzalez off the bag. However, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly challenged the ruling and it was determined Gonzalez kept his foot on the base and Santos was out of the jam.

Peralta easily worked his way through a scoreless top of the sixth by getting Howie Kendrick to ground out, Gonzalez to line out and inducing another ground ball off Turner’s bat. Peralta nearly helped himself in the bottom of the sixth as he hit a deep fly ball to center that Pederson tracked down just before making contact with the fence.

Santos struck out Gomez and Gennett, however the ball got away from Ellis with Gennett at the plate an he managed to reach safely. Braun’s base hit briefly put runners on the corners with one out before Braun alertly broke for second base as Rollins walked the ball back to Santos.

Paco Rodriguez inherited the jam and got Lind to fly out, keeping the Dodgers within four runs of the Brewers. Peralta needed just nine pitches to sail through a scoreless seventh inning. Juan Nicasio took over for the Dodgers in the bottom of the seventh and walked Ramirez to start the inning.

Hector Gomez pinch-ran for Ramirez and he easily moved into scoring position as Nicasio’s first pitch to Davis was wild and bounced off the backstop. It would be as far as Gomez reached however, as Nicasio proceeded to strike out the side. Pederson hit his second solo home run of the game with one out in the eighth to cut the Dodgers’ deficit to 6-3 but Peralta otherwise got through the inning without issue.

J.P. Howell retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to keep the Dodgers within three runs. Francisco Rodriguez came on in the ninth and gave up a leadoff double to Gonzalez. It didn’t amount to anything for the Dodgers as Rodriguez retired the next three batters to earn the save.
