Dodgers’ Gonzalez Takes Up Boxing

Cue LL Cool J’s hit “Mama Said Knock You Out” for this one, please. Thanks. It appears Adrian Gonzalez is starting his training already and going about it in a different way.

Good hitters are almost singularly talented in their hand-eye coordination. One of their few rivals, though: Boxers. When you take that into account, it makes sense that a hitter such as Gonzalez’s quality would look for some kind of advantage in the offseason, and it makes even more sense that he would look into the world of boxing to find it.

Gonzalez tweeted a picture earlier Tuesday afternoon from his account at famous boxing trainer Freddie Roach’s facility in Hollywood.

Anyone who’s boxed before can tell you: it’s one of the best workouts you’ll ever put yourself through. It isn’t like Gonzalez was bad last year, either – playing in 156 games with a .275 batting average with 28 home runs and 90 RBI.

Here’s to hoping this helps him extend his already great career.
