Dodgers Grant Bundy Permission To Interview With DBacks

[new_royalslider id=”331″] In his first year as third base coach, Lorenzo Bundy went through some learning bumps as he learned what it took to man the position.

Bundy was promoted from manager of the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, to third base coach prior to the 2014 season. He replaced Tim Wallach, who was promoted to bench coach for the team.

Announced by the Arizona Diamondbacks official Twitter account, Bundy could find himself with another job come next season:

While Bundy is currently concerned with the Dodgers upcoming playoff series against the St. Louis Cardinals, he now has plans once the postseason is done. The Diamondbacks recently hired De Jon Watson away from the Dodgers and also hired Dave Stewart as their general manager. They fired manager Kirk Gibson before the final series of the season and will conduct an extensive search this winter.

The 54-year-old Bundy has worked with the Diamondbacks twice before, serving as their hitting coach in the minors, bench coach in the majors and then returning in 2009 as their first base coach. Since his retirement, Bundy has worked with numerous teams in different capacities, but has yet to be a manager in the big leagues. He is one of many candidates announced by the Diamondbacks. His familiarity with the area and team could give him a slight boost in the interview process.

Any interview will have to wait until the Dodgers are done with the playoffs. Bundy will have a big role in the postseason, trying to manage the team on the base paths and deciding how aggressive to be. Bundy is still developing his style at third base.

  1. I don’t think he’s done that good a job as 3rd coach, so “happy trails”
