Dodgers Highlights: Pederson Homers, Plus More

Despite the first loss of the season coming on Thursday night at the hands of their hated rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers still had a few noteworthy moments in the game. The final score was 12-6 in favor of the San Francisco Giants, but it didn’t always go their way on Thursday. Some good things did happen for the Dodgers.

In the top of the second inning, pitcher Alex Wood came up to bat with the bases loaded and one out. It appeared that he grounded into an inning-ending double play. However, manager Dave Roberts challenged the neighborhood play at second base, and it was found that Joe Panik didn’t touch the bag. It resulted in the second run of the day for the Dodgers.

Adrian Gonzalez came up to bat in the third inning with Yasiel Puig standing on first base. Gonzalez then ripped a double to left field that barely missed going out of the ballpark. Angel Pagan couldn’t reel it in, and Puig raced all the way around to score the team’s third run of the day. It was just Gonzalez doing what Gonzalez does.

In the top of the eighth inning, with the Dodgers trailing by three runs, Joc Pederson delivered his first home run of the season. It was a monster shot, and MLB’s StatCast takes you in-depth into just how prolific of a home run it was. The ball came off of Pederson’s bat at 109.7 miles per home, traveled 426 feet, and had a hang time of 6.1 seconds. It was a blast.

The Dodgers did not win on Thursday afternoon, but good things still happened. They came within one inning of tying the Major League record for most consecutive scoreless innings to start a season. While the loss sucks, especially because of who they lost to, you have to find the forest through the trees sometimes. The good was there. Just have to find it.
