Dodgers Injury Update: Brett Anderson to Throw Bullpen, Adam Liberatore Struggles in Rehab, and More!

The Dodgers have carried the underdog flag for most of the season due to their alarmingly high amount of injuries. Although this makes for a great story, I think everybody can agree that we would sacrifice the narrative for health. Unfortunately, the Baseball Gods do not agree. The Dodgers continue to suffer injuries, the most recent being Brett Anderson.

On Sunday Brett Anderson made his 2016 debut after being sidelined due to back surgery. Anderson would only last 1 inning giving up 5 runs off of two home runs. He would not come back to face the Pirates in the top of the second due to a mild left wrist sprain that he suffered when fielding a ball in the first.

Thankfully, the wrist injury is nothing serious and he is still scheduled to make his next start on Saturday. Anderson played a game of catch on Tuesday and will throw a bullpen session either on Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully his wrist is not an issue and he can focus on his mechanics so that he does better against the Reds than he did against Pittsburgh.

In other starting pitcher news, Bud Norris played in a rehab assignment for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes where he went 5.2 innings and only gave up one run. Norris was supposed to start on Thursday for the Dodgers, though that has been pushed to Friday. Replacing him for Thursday will be Ross Stripling.

Another pitcher who is on a rehab assignment is one of our best arms out of the bullpen, Adam Liberatore. Liberatore pitched for the Quakes on Sunday giving up 2 runs in one inning of relief. It was his first assignment since being placed on the DL so hopefully he can work on his mechanics and what wasn’t working for him because Liberatore allowing 2 runs is abnormal.

The return of Adam Liberatore to the bullpen will really help out the pitching staff and hopefully give some of those bullpen arms a much needed break. Along with him, Bud Norris’ return will immensely help out the starting rotation, considering the team is continuously forced to waste starters with pitch count limits such as Ross Stripling and Julio Urias. Though those two can hold their own, they will be better utilized if preserved for the playoffs.
