Dodgers Injury Update: Bud Norris Starting for Quakes, Rich Hill to Start Rehab, and More!

Unfortunately, the Dodgers’ injury woes didn’t stop with their star Clayton Kershaw. Instead they moved down the starting rotation to affect their 4 and 5 starters, leaving Kenta Maeda and Scott Kazmir as the only consistently healthy arms. The latest starting pitchers to take a trip to the disabled list are Bud Norris and Rich Hill; however, they should be making their return to the big leagues in no time.

On Saturday the Dodgers announced that Bud Norris would be starting his rehab assignment on that same day for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes! The right-hander has not started a game since July 31st where he was pulled in the first inning with tightness in his back. His rehab start will consist of about 75 pitches with the hope that he will rejoin the team on their next road trip.

Adam Liberatore will also be joining Norris with the Quakes to begin his rehab assignment. Liberatore, who hasn’t pitched since July 29th, has been out with inflammation in his left elbow. If all goes well, he is also expected to rejoin the club on the road.

Rich Hill, on the other hand, has been trying to make his Dodger debut for the past couple of weeks. He is suffering from a blister on his throwing hand which has prevented this, but it seems as though things are finally moving forward. On Saturday, the Dodgers also announced that Rich Hill would begin his rehab assignment over with the OKC Dodgers. His new expected debut for the Dodgers would be August 20th against the Reds, but well know how the last debuts have gone. Hopefully his rehab goes well so that he can finally help out Los Angeles the way that the front office projected him to!

Before the game on Saturday, Justin Turner was scratched from the lineup and replaced with Rob Segedin. Turner is suffering from a right-hand contusion, but not much was released other than that. Hopefully it is nothing more serious than a bruise and this is just a precautionary move.

In Kershaw news, the star left-hander has thrown catch on flat ground for two days in a row! Not too long ago Kershaw wasn’t even allowed to pick up a ball, and now this. Hopefully, the trainers are easing him into his return and not speeding up the process. He is currently on the 60-day DL so he has what seems like all the time in the world to heal. Keep grinding, Kersh!

The Dodgers desperately need some stability in their starting rotation, which has been their only real weak point. Sure, the bats may have been quiet every now and then or the bullpen might give up a run, but the team has been consistently reaching for a 4 and 5 starter. A healthy return for these guys will hopefully fill that void and make this team even more of a threat than they already are!
