Dodgers Injury Update: Ryu Throws Simulated Game, May Return Next Week

[new_royalslider id=”14″] With Juan Uribe returning to the lineup Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers have inched ever closer to getting their roster healthy. The lone player placed on the disabled list this season and who has yet to be reinstated is Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Ryu landed on the DL with inflammation in his left shoulder, a similar injury he suffered from in 2011 that he was able to overcome with rest. After throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, Ryu pitched four innings in a simulated game and may return to the rotation next week, reports ESPN LA’s Mark Saxon:

Despite the initial optimism that Ryu would be able to recover from the inflammation without issue, he did meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache to determine if an MRI would be required. The left-hander avoided needing to undergo the exam but at one point, was behind schedule a bit.

Ryu’s last start before being put on the DL wasn’t the norm for the lefty, as he allowed six runs in five innings to the Colorado Rockies. While Ryu didn’t blame pitching in Australia for the inflammation, it’s hard to look past the pitcher’s early-season workload.

Throughout his career, Ryu has performed markedly better when he’s been able to get an extra day of rest when compared to normal rest. Once the South Korean native is able to return, the Dodgers hope to at last be able to see their pitching staff in its full form.

Ryu currently has a 3-2 record with a 3.00 ERA and a return next week puts him in line to start on the road against the New York Mets.
