Dodgers Julio Urias Talks about Majors before Getting Called Up for Debut vs. Mets | VIDEO

Top pitching prospect for the minor leagues, Julio Urias has been called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Urias was expected to pitch on Thursday in Fresno, Calif. but will now start against the New York Mets Friday. Before knowing he would be the starting pitcher for Friday’s game, Urias talked about the possibility of playing in the majors.

Interesting to note how Urias went from prepping to pitch in Fresno to New York. With great anticipation for the day he would finally be called up by the Dodgers, Urias knew it was important for him to always be ready.

“The goal is to get as much experience as possible (in the minors) and earn as many wins for the Dodgers as I can,” said Urias through a translator. “I want to keep working on my pitches and my control. I want to be as physically and mentally prepared as possible.”

No stranger to the team, Urias spent spring training with the Dodgers and had nothing but great things to say about his experience with now fellow teammate, Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw was very interested in Urias’s techniques during Spring Training and vice versa.

During his time with the Oklahoma City Dodgers Urias racked up a 27 scoreless inning streak, and was 4-1 this season with a 1.10 ERA. Urias also had 44 strikeouts in 41 IP.
