Dodgers: Kody Hoese Ranked 10th-Best Third Base Prospect by MLB Evaluator

People inside of the baseball industry were championing the Dodgers for their excellent pair of first round selections in the most recent 2019 MLB Draft by taking third baseman Kody Hoese of Tulane University and second baseman Michael Busch of the University of North Carolina.

Hoese and Busch are both very dynamic athletes and Busch was recently ranked in the top ten amongst second base prospects in the game by MLB.com. This time, prospect expert Jim Callis has ranked Kody Hoese in the top ten at third base.

For Hoese to make this top-10 list is rather impressive considering the excellent talent on this list. Names like Alec Bohm, Nolan Jones, and Nolan Gorman are amongst some of the best prospects baseball has to offer.

When the Dodgers selected Hoese out of Tulane, their immediate vision for him was to be their future third baseman when Justin Turner eventually retires. Hoese has some solid defensive potential over at the hot corner and may develop some top-tier power mixed in with excellent plate discipline.

In his first display in the Dodgers’ minor league system, Hoese showed out well. The 21 year-old posted a .299/.380/.483 triple slash line with 5 home runs and 29 RBI in 41 games in his professional debut. Moreover, he’s spent time working out at Dodger Stadium with other prospects and some players from the big league squad.

If he can continue to mash, he is not long for the minor leagues.

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

  1. Hopefully Kody Hoese continues to progress because LO AND BEHOLD, folks, he is a RHB Michael Busch is a LHB and can be used in some trade package if need be, because we already have Lux, who is primed to start at 2nd and he too is a LHB
