Dodgers Losing Streak Rises To 9 Games

Just when the Dodgers are starting to like they have turned the corner, they find a way to drop the game. On Friday, they scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Unfortunately, they couldn’t figure out a way to get just a couple of more to beat the Rockies.

Saturday’s game showed a bit more promise, but the end result was ultimately the same. Los Angeles put up three runs in the 4th inning and another in the 5th, thanks to a pinch-hit home run by Andre Ethier. The Rockies found a way to get an insurance run off of Kenley Jansen in the 9th inning, which would be the cushion that prevented Logan Forsythe’s 9th inning-home run from tying the game.

Beyond having lost 9 games in a row, the Dodgers have now lost 14 of their last 15 games. Eric Stephen of True Blue LA tweeted an interesting stat on Sunday showing that the Dodgers’ current losing streak could make the record books should they win it all.

The losing streak is puzzling the players as well, with Chris Taylor telling reporters after Saturday’s game that the team has had meetings but still can’t figure it out. 6 of the 9 losses in a row have been within 2 runs, so it’s not like it’s a blowout every night. However, from September 4th to September 7th, Los Angeles scored a mere three runs and allowed opponents to score a total of 25 runs. Luckily, the bats seem to be coming around, with the team scoring four runs on Friday and five runs on Saturday.

When Dave Roberts spoke to the media after Saturday’s loss, he seemed fairly confused saying, “I can’t explain it” on what is going on with the team. It seems like everything that can go wrong has gone wrong for the Dodgers, and you can sense that feeling of perplexity in Roberts’ voice.

Although this losing streak, and slump overall, seems like the end of the world for this Dodgers club, it’s not. Los Angeles still has a 10-game lead on the Diamonbacks, who have lost 2 games in a row to the Padres. They will finish off the series against the Rockies with Rich Hill taking the mound and will move on to face the Giants up in San Francisco next.
