Dodgers Minor League News: Who are the Next Dodger Stars?

Now with the season over, many are wondering what next years team will look like! The Los Angeles Dodgers have some of the strongest Minor League players in the industry. Lets take a look at the players that may be on the Dodger field in the near future!

Where Do The Dodgers Stand In The 2017 MLB Draft?

Jose De Leons start was one of the most exciting moments this season! Fans not only got to see a brand new arm, but they also got to see the quality of players coming out of the Minors. If nothing, it was validation that the young bloods will make for a great 2017 team!

Starting off, lets take a look at the Oklahoma City Dodgers outlier, Cody Bellinger. He caught some attention with his late movement from the Tulsa Drillers, up to OKC on September 3, 2016. Since being moved up, he hit three home runs (two of which were in the same game), 6 hits in 11 at bats giving him a .545 average.

Bellingers OKC teammate, O’Koyea Dickson, has been gaining a lot of attention as he continues to advance within the organization. In 2015, Dickson appeared in 117 games and hit .262 with 12 homers and 50 RBI. In 2016, he showed off his growth by hitting .328 with 18 homers and 64 RBI in 101 games. Dicksons unconventional batting stance calls a lot of attention, especially when it results in a home run!

Another player who has been advancing quickly is Edwin Rios. The Puerto Rican has advanced from the Arizona League Dodgers to the Tulsa Drillers since being drafted in the 6th round of the 2015 draft. Rios was named the Dodgers organizational minor league player of the year for 2016! His powerful swing is definitely something to be afraid of!

The other Tulsa player to watch out for is Alex Verdugo! He has been with the organization since 2014 where he was drafted in the 2nd round immediately out of high school. The lefty outfielder, has appeared in 126 games hitting a total of 13 home runs with a 63 RBI. He was chosen to be a starter for the mid-season all-star game and named to the post-season all-star team!

Looking at the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a big star of the team is Yusniel Diaz! The Quakes team got some great experience by helping Clayton Kershaw get back to his feet. Hopefully, the boys were able to take in as much knowledge from the baseball pro as they could! Diaz shows some promising numbers: in 85 games he hit .267 with nine homers and 57 RBI.

Lets not forget the talent coming out of the Great Lakes Loons! The pitcher Yadier Alvarez was ranked as the second best prospect going into the 2015 international signing period. Alvarez signed with the Dodgers on July 2, 2015 for a $16 million bonus. Alvarez made nine starts for the Loons, so far, having a 2.29 ERA and 55 strikeouts in only 39 1/3 innings! The young Cuban has created a lot of talk!

Not to mention, how cute is this tweet? His child like enthusiasm is just what major league baseball needs!

  1. Nothing personal, Morgan, but you use too many exclamation points. Using them so much actually weakens their impact as intensifiers. There is also a tendency to insert commas where none are needed. A few examples:

“Alvarez made nine starts for the Loons, so far, having a 2.29 ERA and 55 strikeouts in only 39 1/3 innings!”
    [first comma is unnecessary]

“The lefty outfielder, has appeared in 126 games hitting a total of 13 home runs with a 63 RBI.”
    [comma is unnecessary]
