Players of the Day – Greg Harris and Victor Arano

Two Loons pitchers combined to hurl a shutout on Wednesday. Harris, who had been bouncing between starting and relieving, took the first five innings in yesterday’s contest and provide five scoreless frames. The 19-year-old has been unlucky this year, as his strikeout, walk and homer rates are all good, but his ERA is up to 5.47. More outings like Wednesday’s will help get his ERA where it should be.

Arano piggy-backed Harris for the last four innings, accumulating his third save of the season. He’s also been alternating between starting and relieving, after struggling in the beginning of May. In his last five starts, Arano has allowed just four runs in 18.2 innings. His peripherals are strong, like Harris’, and his ERA is a little lower at 4.60. Also 19, this gives the Dodgers two young pitchers who are having deceptively successful full-season debuts.
