Player of the Day – Miguel Urena

As is customary, all of the Dodgers’ stateside affiliates were off for the All-Star Game. That left the Dominican Summer League club, which is trying to creep toward a .500 record, as the only team in action.

July 2 signing Felix Osorio hit his first home run with the team, but five scoreless innings from Urena made the difference. The 6’8 righty lowered his ERA on the season to 1.58 with a .197 batting average against and he’s yet to allow a home run.

The win improved his record this season to 3-4 and pulled the DSL Dodgers within three games of reaching .500. For a 19-year-old with his size, it’s difficult to simply repeat Urena’s mechanics, let alone have any type of sustained success. He’s a name to watch over the next few years.

And don’t forget, Corey Seager makes the move to Double-A, so be sure to check back to see how he does in his new assignment.
