With several injuries and the Dodgers losing nine of their 12 last games, optimism was ultimately restored this past Wednesday with the return of Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp. Behind four hits from Kemp and three runs scored by Hanley, both led the Dodgers to a 9-3 victory over the Diamondbacks.
With the Dodgers nearing their first NL West title since 2009, the Diamondbacks asked the team not to return to the fieldafter going to the clubhouse and celebrating. It was an interesting request, but the Dodgers respected those wishes by jumping into the pool instead winning the division on Thursday.
Their celebration quickly became known as “Poolgate” as Diamondbacks management and players criticized the Dodgers while Senator John McCain even chimed in, calling the Dodgers “spoiled brats.” However, the players didn’t take it seriously as both sides came to the consensus that the Dodgers ultimately earned the right to celebrate their NL West title.
With the playoffs near, Andre Ethier hopes to return next week against the Giants as the team is starting to get healthy. While there is still home field advantage to play for, Don Mattingly wants his players to be as healthy as possible and keep them sharp heading into the playoffs.
