Dodgers News: 2016 Campaign Could Be Boom or Bust, per Fox Sports

Baseball’s back! With the Super Bowl officially over and football season in the rear view mirror, we can finally get back to the most important matter at hand, and that’s that baseball is now pushed back into the forefront. And, in doing so, JP Morosi wrote an article about baseball’s ten biggest storylines this season. One of the storylines had to do with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As spring training sits only a couple of weeks away, articles are getting published nearly every day that have to do with things to look out for as the season draws closer. It’s of no surprise that the Dodgers keep showing up on these lists considering their offseason maneuvering that has seen them nab some players and lose one vital player.

ICYMI: Team Has Second-Best NL West Infield

From JP Morosi at Fox Sports dot com:

2. Did the Dodgers improve enough to win their first World Series since 1988?

Now, that’s a loaded question. And Morosi goes on to give “three undeniable facts” about the Dodgers’ offseason, two of which were losing Zack Greinke without replacing his spot in the rotation with a “comparable starter” and the outfield being just as overcrowded now as it was a year ago.

All of those are true. He even had one in there about the Dodgers scoring the third-fewest runs in the National League after the All-Star break, but not helping out the offense by adding anyone of note. Once again, true. But it’s his final statement that rings the most.

Last year, the Dodgers had the most expensive roster in North American professional sports history. This year, they have a lower payroll — and more questions.

This is certainly an interesting topic of conversation. The Dodgers have slashed payroll, but in doing so have opened themselves up to a boom-or-bust type of season due to their roster being littered with injury-plagued players and boom-or-bust type players.

One thing is for certain, though, and that’s that 2016 is going to be a highly scrutinized year for the team with each passing day. If they don’t perform well out of the gate, people will call for heads to roll.
