Dodgers News: A.J. Ellis Congratulates Ex-Teammate Dee Gordon On New Contract

Late yesterday, the Miami Marlins and second baseman Dee Gordon agreed on a five-year, $50 million contract extension, which also includes a sixth year vesting option. The deal will keep the former Dodger in Miami through at least the 2020 season, and as far as the 2021 season if the option vests.

Gordon was traded by the Dodgers to the Marlins in December 2014, but that hasn’t stopped a former teammate of his from reaching out to send well wishes and congratulations to the speedy second baseman.

Dodger catcher A.J. Ellis (@AJEllis17) tweeted the following to Dee Gordon (@FlashGJr) yesterday evening:

Gordon won the National League batting title last season as he hit .333 in his first season in South Florida. Gordon also led the Majors in stolen bases (58) and hits (205). Due to his outstanding 2015 season, he was named a Silver Slugger and took home a Gold Glove.

During his last season in Los Angeles, Gordon hit .289, stole 62 bases, and had 12 triples. He made the All-Star Game each of the last two seasons.

Despite not being teammates anymore, Ellis still reached out to tell Gordon how proud he was of him. That just goes to show that once you’re a teammate of someone, you’re likely going to stay a teammate of theirs long after.

It was awesome to see Ellis’ response to Gordon’s contract.
