Dodgers News: Adam Liberatore Optioned Down

Tonight, it was announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned left-handed reliever Adam Liberatore to the minor leagues. The 28-year old compiled a 4.25 ERA in 29.2 innings last year, his first as a member of the Dodgers. His run at making the opening day roster is now over.

In his 10 appearances during the spring extravaganza, the 6-foot-3 Liberatore totaled 9 innings and compiled a 3.00 ERA. The most astounding thing was the sheer fact that he struck out 11 batters while walking none. He did give up two home runs, but he also had a 0.89 WHIP and .242 average against.

From Andy McCullough, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times:

Liberatore appeared in 19 games last season for the Dodgers in Triple-A. He had a 3.74 ERA in 21.2 innings while fanning 18 batters. It wasn’t an ideal 2015 all-around campaign for him, but he does still feature quite a bit of potential as either a lefty specialist or even seventh inning reliever.

It appears that he will begin the season in Triple-A and possibly be a call-up candidate early in the season if something were to happen with a member or two of the bullpen. As is usually the case, help is just one phone call away for Los Angeles. So expect to see Liberatore up with the club again.
