Dodgers News: Gonzalez Discusses Bubbles Potentially Returning In 2015

While baseball is viewed as a game with strong ties to tradition and “playing the right way”, a handful of teams have adopted somewhat unconventional means of celebrating. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, that equated to dugout bubble parties and selfie celebrations in 2014.

Although the bubbles seemed to unite the team and drew much fanfare, MLB wasn’t nearly as keen on it and instructed the Dodgers to cease using a bubble machine in the dugout. The Dodgers obliged for one game, then the bubbles returned and were in use throughout the remainder of the season.

With large personalities Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez no longer on the team, some have wondered if the bubble celebrations will carry over into 2015. Adrian Gonzalez, whom A.J. Ellis said is the person who first brought the bubble machine into the dugout, told John Hartung and Jerry Hairston, Jr. of SportsNet LA he isn’t sure:

We will see. You never know. Every team has their own character and takes their own shape. We will see where it goes to. If that’s what we go with, that’s what we go with. If not, it’ll be something new, something more creative, something fun.”

Gonzalez was also asked about team chemistry now that there are new faces in the lineup, and he was complementary of both Howie Kendrick and Jimmy Rollins:

They are guys that are proven, great guys in the clubhouse, guys that show up to play, lead by example. When you have guys like that people will follow. They are guys with a great track record. Everybody always says good things about them so you can only expect they will bring some great leadership and some great added chemistry to the team.”

Gonzalez’s comments at Dodgers Fan Fest are similar to a sentiment he shared in January when he stated he believes the Dodgers are now a deeper team. Although the bubble machine may not return to Chavez Ravine this season, the winning atmosphere should.
