Dodgers News: AGon Leading Dodgers in All-Star Vote

The MLB released the first round of All-Star voting results on Wednesday and due to the lukewarm start of the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, not many familiar faces were to be found.

With the Chicago Cubs jumping out to a 35-15 record, it is not surprising to see 5 of the starting 8 position players hailing from the north side of Chi-Town. However, not everything is doom and gloom for the Dodgers as first base stalwart Adrian Gonzalez appeared on the leading vote getters list for first basemen.

While it would appear unlikely that AGon could catch up with current leader Anthony Rizzo, the gap between him and 2nd place Brandon Belt of the Dodgers hated rivals San Francisco Giants could easily be made up with a strong push from the fans.

But, Dodgers fans can take solace in the fact that the rest of the roster is chosen by players, coaches, and managers. Meaning, in all likelihood, we will get to see pitcher Clayton Kershaw play in his 6th consecutive all star game. We may also see the All-Star debuts of closer Kenley Jansen and Japanese star Kenta Maeda.

Controversy with the New York Mets aside, NL All-Star manager Terry Collins would have a difficult time, at this point of the season, sending out anyone but Kershaw to start.

The MLB All-Star game holds much more significance than similar events in other major sports, because the league that wins the All-Star game gains home field advantage for the World Series in October. Fans can vote for the game here until the end of June.

You may vote in the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Balloting Program a maximum of thirty-five (35) times between April 24, 2016, and June 30, 2016 (limit of five (5) times during any twenty-four (24) hour period, with that twenty-four (24) hour period to begin as of the time of the first vote; following the expiration of the initial twenty-four (24) hour period, the next twenty-four (24) hour period begins at the time of your next vote).
