Dodgers News: Alex Verdugo, Willie Calhoun Dominating Triple-A

It has been said time and time again but Alex Verdugo is yet to slow down in any aspect at Triple-A.

But infielder Willie Calhoun, another of the Dodgers top prospects has quietly been having his own marvelous season right alongside Verdugo at Oklahoma City.

21-year-old Alex Verdugo is still sporting a ridiculous line in 2017:

LG LEVEL G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS GO/AO
Minors 2017 PCL AAA 63 230 41 77 106 14 3 3 34 29 1 25 4 1 .335 .409 .461 .870 1.03
Minors Career Minors 367 1409 200 433 623 84 11 28 199 114 8 175 31 12 .307 .362 .442 .804 1.31

Most notable for Verdugo is his strikeout to walk ratio at 25/29.

22-year-old Wille Calhoun is posting numbers just as good as Verdugo with a lot more power over the first few months:

LG LEVEL G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS GO/AO
Minors 2017 PCL AAA 63 247 41 72 136 12 5 14 39 18 1 31 3 1 .291 .337 .551 .888 0.86
Minors Career Minors 268 1035 164 290 520 60 7 52 175 98 4 134 5 2 .280 .343 .502 .845 0.93

While Willie Calhoun lacks the OBP that Verdugo shows, he has mashed 14 home runs and is also striking out at a very low rate with just 31 Ks in 247 ABs.

As long as Calhoun and Verdugo are still in the Dodgers system post trade deadline, it is almost assured that we will get a glimpse of them here in 2017. Both of them should have an opportunity to earn a spot on the big league club in 2018.
