Dodgers News: Alex Wood to Undergo Arthroscopic Surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without promising young starter Alex Wood since the beginning of June due to an elbow injury. The team received less than stellar news about Wood on Wednesday though as it was reported that the 25-year-old will undergo arthroscopic debridement on his injured left elbow.

This will not be reassuring to Dodgers fans who are currently dealing with Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu going to the DL and are having to rely on a staff made up of all middle of the rotation pitchers to carry them through the playoff push for the foreseeable future. With the amount of injuries that the team has sustained this season (and really the last 2-3 years as well) fans may have to start to wondering if it’s just not meant to be this year. There is still a fairly good chance that the team will try and make a move at the trade deadline but that might cost them a top tier prospect and the front office has been holding on to top talent very tightly.

Who Will Be Odd Man Out in Dodgers Rotation?

There is no need to panic right now because the team has been without Wood for a very large chunk of time and his absence in the rotation won’t be too much of a burden. But, with the sheer amount of injuries that the rotation has dealt with, one has to ask when, if at all, it will stop. It would be shocking to see the Dodgers stand pat at the deadline and this news puts the onus on the team even more to acquire an arm.

In the wake of this news and every single solitary detail that comes out about Clayt0n Kershaw, it will be a fascinating 11 days until the trade deadline and fans everywhere will be waiting with baited breath to see what the team does.
