Dodgers News: An Update on Yimi Garcia

Right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia of the Los Angeles Dodgers recently had to be removed from a game against the Colorado Rockies because of right biceps soreness. He was subsequently placed on the disabled list as a result of the injury, and slowly news has started to trickle in regarding how fast he might be able to heal from all of it.

In the 5.2 innings that Garcia had thrown from April 10 to April 22, he had given up just one run, and that came in the same game that his injury occurred. He had accumulated a 1.59 ERA over that span, and it looked like he was coming into his own before the injury. The Dodgers had hoped he wouldn’t miss too much time, but it was learned that he might be on the shelf for a while.

Dodgers’ Kazmir on Rough Start and Marlins’ Mattingly on Ejection

From ESPN dot com, via the Associated Press:

Dodgers: RHP Yimi Garcia (right biceps soreness) has yet to pick up a baseball and will undergo an MRI if his condition does not improve.

If this does not improve, it might lead to surgery for Yimi Garcia. That’s obviously something neither he nor the team wants to experience, but it is a little worrisome that he has been unable to even pick up a baseball and throw it for any duration during this little downtime. This could be a biceps tendinitis issue, and that will take time, but anything lengthier will require surgery.

If Garcia eventually does have biceps surgery, he would miss anywhere from three to four months in all likelihood. That’s a key piece of the team’s bullpen resting up on the shelf because of an injury, and that is a sentence that no one wants to read this early in a season .. or ever. Hopefully, this injury to Garcia doesn’t require surgery, and hopefully he can get back out there at full strength in the near future.
