Dodgers News And Rumors: Clayton Kershaw Signs Contract Extension

Clayton KershawThe Los Angeles Dodgers have locked up their ace with a seven-year, $215 million contract extension that will keep the left-hander in Los Angeles hopefully until 2020.

Clayton Kershaw filed for salary arbitration and was heading into his last season under contract with the Dodgers before hitting free agency. Management made sure that the 25-year-old wouldn’t have a chance to sign with any other team with the record-setting deal. It’s the largest contract ever given to a pitcher and includes an opt-out clause after five years. Kershaw will make $22 million next season and will make as much as $33 million in 2017.

After winning his second Cy Young award in the past three years, the left-hander set himself up for a big payday. He hinted that he was curious about free agency, but won’t be able to test the market until at least the 2018 season.
