Dodgers News And Rumors: Don Mattingly Gets Extension From Dodgers

Don MattinglyThe Los Angeles Dodgers finally have agreed on an extension, but not with ace Clayton Kershaw or Hanley Ramirez. The Dodgers came to terms with manager Don Mattingly, giving him a multi-year deal that runs through 2016. After much uncertainty, the Dodgers have finally given Mattingly the job security he was seeking.

Mattingly’s job status was up in the air after some questionable in-game moves during the postseason. The Dodgers were two wins away from the World Series and are considered one of the favorites to compete for a title this upcoming season. Mattingly comes from the Joe Torre coaching tree and was able to manage the expectations pretty well this past season.

Mattingly was able to bounce back after a rough start to the season, leading the Dodgers to an NL West title and valuable playoff experience. Third base coach Tim Wallach was named as the new bench coach to help the 52-year-old manager with in-game decisions, but his best quality is being able to handle a clubhouse with so many personalities.

Hopefully this extension signifies the Dodgers will be also extending Kershaw and Ramirez, something that should definitely be a priority. Mattingly will have three years or so to bring a World Series championship to Los Angeles, a city that’s been starving for a title since 1988.
