The Los Angeles Dodgers faced a scary moment on Wednesday night after Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong nailed Hanley Ramirez in the hand with a fastball in the seventh inning. The shortstop was immediately removed from the game and underwent X-rays, which came back negative. Initially, Ramirez believed he would be ready to play in Thursday’s series finale, but he was not listed in the lineup come Thursday morning.
Ramirez adamantly stated on Thursday that he will without a doubt be back with the team for Friday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old also dismissed any ideas that Vogelsong intentionally hit him, adding that all of his teammates would have had his back if that was the case.
Most recently dealing with a cracked rib in last season’s NLCS, the Dodger shortstop is familiar with injury. Ramirez began the 2013 season with an injured thumb, but more than made up for his absence in his return. This hand injury comes at an untimely manner as the Dodgers have only one off day in the next month. Hopefully, Ramirez will be back to health soon and will not be significantly affected by this injury.
