Dodgers News And Rumors: Puig’s Struggles Could’ve Led To Minors

[new_royalslider id=”13″]

With the Yasiel Puig mired in a slump, he was taken out of the Friday’s lineup against the San Diego Padres. Entering the matchup, the outfielder was held hitless in his last 18 at-bats and struck out in a pinch-hit appearance Friday night.

Puig’s recent troubles are nothing new as he has been in a general slump since the All-Star break. Because he played well earlier in the season, Puig participated in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game for the first time, but had disappointing outings in both events.

Had Puig experienced a similar downtrend earlier in the season, manager Don Mattingly admitted the team might have considered sending him down to the minors and promoting Joc Pederson, who was named the Pacific Coast League MVP and is expected to join the Dodgers roster in September.
