Dodgers News: Andre Ethier Goes 2-4 in Rehab Assignment

On Thursday the Dodgers made a couple of surprised announcements that left fans shocked. The first one was the trading of A.J. Ellis to the Phillies for Carlos Ruiz. Though Ellis was not our starting catcher, his knowledge and dedication to the game will be missed. The other announcement that Andre Ethier would begin his rehab assignment with the Quakes that night also came as a huge shock!

Ethier went 2-4 with a single and a double in his first rehab assignment with the double-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. His single was just an infield single but his double was a shot off of the center field wall, which is reminiscent of a healthy Andre Ethier. He even showed off the wheels by scoring from third on a wild pitch!

In case you don’t remember, Andre Ethier has not played a game since fowling a ball off of his right shin in spring training. This was a huge blow to the Dodgers considering how well he played and led the team in the 2015 season.

Last year, Ethier hit a phenomenal .294 with 14 home runs and 20 doubles. Luckily, the Dodgers have had a surplus of successful outfielders this year; however, his presence was missed nonetheless.

It will be a nice addition to get Andre Ethier back in Los Angeles. The 10-year veteran will not only be able to help guide players like Pederson, Seager, and Toles, he will be able to swing a nice bat! Since the break, the Dodgers have been one of the most successful teams at the plate. Adding Ethier to that equation will only make the team stronger.
