Dodgers News: Beckett Reinstated From DL, Paco Rodriguez Optioned

[new_royalslider id=”22″] Before the All-Star break, Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher Josh Beckett was placed on the disabled list with hip infringement. It was unclear how long Beckett would be out.

After a successful bullpen, the right-hander was penciled in to start Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In order to make room for Beckett, the Dodgers announced a move to send down left-hander Paco Rodriguez just a few days after he was recalled. The move came as no surprise because of Rodriguez’s available minor league option.

Rodriguez began the year with the Dodgers before being sent down earlier in the year. He was recalled briefly before remaining in Triple-A with the Albuequerque Isotopes. The 23-year-old came back to the big leagues on Friday and tossed two scoreless appearances on Friday and Saturday. He will rejoin the Isotopes and will be the first reliever recalled if necessary.

Beckett has not started since July 6 and will be making his 18th start of the season on Tuesday. He ranks among the top starters with a 2.26 ERA and a .203 opponents’ batting average. Beckett began the year on the disabled list with a thumb injury, but has been a pleasant surprise since then. The right-hander is in the last year of his contract that was originally signed with the Boston Red Sox and is enjoying a comeback season after missing almost all of last year with surgery to remove a rib.

With Beckett’s return, the Dodgers have their full rotation back in order after Paul Maholm was thrust into a starters’ role for one game before the break.
