Dodgers News: Brandon McCarthy Scheduled to Begin Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment on Saturday. On Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts said McCarthy will start his assignment for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.

McCarthy has not played since April 2015. The 32-year-old pitcher has been on the disabled list at least 10 times since 2007 with right shoulder blade problems.

He is expected to pitch three innings for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, according to MLB.com writer Ken Gurnick. McCarthy spent the entire 2010 season at Triple-A.

Roberts says McCarthy has shown lots of progress and is ready to begin his assignment.

McCarthy signed with the Dodgers after the 2014 season on a 4-year, $48M contract.

With McCarthy set to begin his rehab assignment, he is the first out of the four disabled Dodger pitchers to work on getting back on the mound.
