Dodgers News: Brian Wilson Just Wants To Get Outs, Stay Ready

Brian Wilson made his long awaited Dodgers debut yesterday afternoon in Miami and struck out two in his one inning of work. A closer for so many years with the Giants, manager Don Mattingly was reluctant to put him in a high leverage situation as he works his way back into game shape.

Wilson will be in the Dodgers bullpen at Dodger Stadium for the first time and it’s definitely possible that he could be used in a high leverage situation tonight. Talking to the crew from MLB Network, Wilson said it doesn’t matter to him when he’s used and will be ready:

I came here to get outs, it doesn’t matter which ones they are, the 27th or 24th. I’m here to contribute and there’s nothing new to prepare. Try to get loose around the 4th or 5th and that’s it.

While he said that it isn’t weird to put on the Dodger jersey, it’s been an adjustment period for fans. In the same interview, Wilson didn’t say no to the idea abut dying his beard blue, but did say it might be going overboard.

When he was signed, Dodger players said they wanted Brian Wilson the pitcher, not the guy with the beard and if yesterday is any indication, he should strengthen the bullpen.
