Dodgers News: Carlos Marmol Signs One-Year Deal With Miami Marlins

Carlos MarmolWith a crowded bullpen, Los Angeles Dodgers free agent reliever Carlos Marmol was really never discussed as an option to come back. Free agents Chris Perez and Jamey Wright were signed while Brian Wilson and J.P. Howell were retained.

Marmol was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in early early July in exchange for Matt Guerrier and an international signing bonus slot. In his brief stint with the Dodgers, the 31-year-old was somewhat serviceable. While he had a 2.53 ERA, his control continued to be a problem with a 1.42 K/BB rate in 21 appearances with the Dodgers. However, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes, Marmol has found a new team for the 2014 season:

Marmol will likely serve in a set-up role with the Marlins and if they decide to move incumbent closer Steve Cishek, he could be in-line for that job. While most Dodger fans got extremely nervous when he’d come into a game, he did a decent job mopping up. The Dodgers bullpen figures to be strong in 2014 and while Marmol didn’t have a real impact on the team, he allowed them to trade Guerrier and get more money to sign international players.
