Dodgers News: Carlos Triunfel Claimed Off Waivers From Mariners

[new_royalslider id=”81″] By losing Javy Guerra and Seth Rosin on waiver claims to the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers, respectively, and with somewhat of an unproven bench, the Los Angeles Dodgers had room on their 40-man roster to make an addition.

Despite an influx of infielders already on the active roster and within the minor league ranks, the Dodgers claimed infielder Carlos Triunfel off waivers on Wednesday and optioned him to their Triple-A affiliate, Albuquerque Isotopes, according to the team’s official Twitter account:

Triunfel played sparingly with the Seattle Mariners in 2012 and 2013, playing in 27 games and accumulating 66 at-bats over the two seasons. The 24-year-old utility infielder, who can play second, shortstop and third, is a career .167 hitter with five RBIs. Triunfel has had more success at the minor league level, batting a career .271 in AAA over three seasons. As a member of the Tacoma Rainiers, Triunfel has 59 doubles, 15 home runs and 103 RBIs. Triunfel is coming off his best season at the AAA level, where he hit .282 and had a .723 OPS in 100 games.

Triunfel first joined the Mariners organization at the age of 17, making his debut with their Midwest League team, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. By the age of 21, Triunfel reached Triple-A. In being optioned to the Isotopes, Triunfel will play alongside highly-touted prospect Joc Pederson and others who have spent time on the big league roster in recent years. Should Triunfel be able to continue his success at the Triple-A level, a call up when the rosters expand to 40 isn’t beyond possibility. The Dodgers currently have Triunfel’s former teammate, Chone Figgins and Justin Turner on the roster as backup infielders, which is a role Triunfel could potentially assume in seasons down the line.

  1. I really wish I could enjoy watching the Dodger games on TV. I have Directv and they do not carry the new Dodger channel. To me it all boils down to pure greed, now for me to possibly watch a Dodger game (Only if Directv opts to carry the channel) I have to pay to watch and so does everyone else no matter whether they are a Dodger fan or not!!! How is that fair???
And I understand that the price will go up every year to cover TWC huge pricetag.
You know the Angels are looking pretty good this year and guess what I can watch all of their games on a channel I already have. Maybe it is time for a change!!!
