Dodgers News: Chances Of Clinching NL West At Home Decreasing

The Dodgers magic number remained six after their 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks last night and their chances of clinching the NL West at home reduced significantly.

In order for the Dodgers to lower their magic number, it takes any combination of losses by the Diamondbacks and Dodger wins as it could’ve been four going into the series with the Giants.

Talking to Mark Saxson of ESPNLA.com, catcher A.J. Ellis talked about how sweet it would be to celebrate with the fans at Dodger Stadium:

Absolutely, he said. The fan support this year has been unbelievable. They’ve been energizing us, and we’ve had so many full houses here that have carried us through some of these dramatic victories we’ve had. So, yeah, if we could find a way to finish it off this weekend, we’ll feel fortunate.

Tonight marks the beginning of a four-game series against the hated Giants while the Diamondbacks will play host to the Rockies starting tomorrow night. So far this season, the Dodgers are 6-6 against their rivals to the north while the DBacks are 8-5 against the Rockies.

Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw and Ricky Nolasco pitch three of the four games against the Giants and adding the motivation to win celebrate at Dodger Stadium with the home fans, the Dodgers should be focused.

If the Dodgers aren’t able to clinch the division at home over the weekend, it’s likely that they would celebrate at Chase Field against the DBacks next week.
