Dodgers News: Charlie Culberson Avoids Arbitration; Agrees to Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to settle a contract with infielder Charlie Culberson with a salary of $550K for the 2017 season, according to FanRag’s Jon Heyman.

Culberson spent most of 2016 with the Oklahoma City Dodgers in Triple-A and hit four home runs and collected 33 RBIs while hitting .260/.310/.385. With the Dodgers, the 27-year-old hit .299/.309/.388 with 67 at-bats and collected seven RBIs. His only home run of the season was the final game for broadcasting legend Vin Scully and helped the Dodgers clinch the NL West title in Los Angeles.

After the walk-off home run, Culberson’s celebration was added to the Dodger fans’ favorite moment of the season or one of them.

The Dodgers signed one-year contracts with Scott Van Slyke and Chris Hatcher about two hours before Culberson’s contract agreement. There are several other players that are arbitration-eligible and if they do not settle on a contract, then they will become free agents.

How do you feel having Charlie Culberson back in Dodger blue?

  1. Culberson is a solid utility guy that could become the 2nd baseman. He certainly has the glove and range for it. But can he hit is the question? He had some streaks where he should flashes of hitting very well.  He did hit 299 for the Dodgers which wold be great…
