Dodgers News: Chase Utley Records 1,000th Career Run

Closing out the last of a 3-game series vs. the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley scored his 1,000th career run.

The 37-year-old reaches the milestone in front of his home crowd and is the first Dodger to score his 1,000th career run since Devon White on May 5, 1999. Utley scored the run after a wild pitch by Nationals’ Joe Ross putting the Dodgers up 1-0 in the first inning.

Utley wasn’t the only Dodger making history vs. the Nationals this week. On Monday night closer Kenley Jansen became the Dodgers all-time leader in saves. Also, Utley was almost beat to the 1,000th mark.

From Eric Stephens, TrueBlueLA:

Carl Crawford was designated for assignment on June 5 sitting on 998 runs scored.

Utley is 13th among active players with his 1,000 runs. The first 949 of those runs came with Philadelphia, where he spent the first 12½ seasons of his career. Utley ranks sixth on the Phillies’ all-time franchise list for runs scored, behind four Hall of Famers (Mike Schmidt, Ed Delahanty, Richie Ashburn and Chuck Klein) and Jimmy Rollins.

Utley has made the most of his leadoff spot for the Dodgers leading in on-base percentage, and is second in runs scored with 37 this season. The Dodgers have the day off on Thursday before beginning a 7-game road trip.
